A Brief History:

The first two photos are from around the early 1930s then owned by Alfred McConkey who came in from a local farm after the first world war. After doing a couple of jobs he started the delivery business in the early 1920s. He purchased a  truck in the late 20s and early 30s but sold it due to a lack of fuel in the 2nd world war and went back to the horse and cart. After the war, he purchased the blitz wagon and used that until the mid-50s  when he purchased the Fargo and the Bedford, by this time the business had been taken over by Tom Whitehead and continued to grow. In the early ’80s, now run by his grandson John, the rail was deregulated. Geraldton Transport branched out with a Perth depot and, in conjunction with 3 other businesses around the state, formed Country Carriers. The truck and trailer with the tarped load are the first to come out of Perth with the new format.
